Surviving Your First Year in Network Marketing

Your first year in network marketing is either going to make or break you. If you have created a plan and done everything right, you will be reaping the benefits of your strategy already. However, if you jump right in, don’t do adequate research or engage in ethical practices, you will join the club of many others who have tried and failed.

Why You Might Fail

Nearly everyone has heard stories or personally knows someone who has failed during their first year in network marketing. There are a few reasons why this could happen to you:
• Believe the Hype

– If a company is promising you overnight success, run away! No one can guarantee a profitable adventure and certainly not in a short time. Choose a reputable company that will tell you that success is going to take hard work and commitment. If it was that easy, wouldn’t everyone be doing it? If you want your dream of financial freedom to come true, you are going to have to pay your dues.
• Wrong Company

– The company you choose will play a huge role in how successful your first year in network marketing is. All companies are not the same; not even close! If you are not careful, you could suddenly find yourself involved with several companies on accident. It is also important to not jump from one company to another just because a product becomes popular. Corporate competition is the only thing to come of this.
• Fail at Recruiting

– Trying to recruit your family and friends is rarely a good idea. Sure, you are excited but you will find that most will try to sway you away, not support you. This isn’t because they don’t want you to succeed, but because they have heard of bad experiences that others have had during their first year in network marketing.
• Unrealistic Goals

– Setting goals is crucial but expecting too much too fast is unwise. If you think you will already be making a six-figure salary at the end of your first year, you will likely be disappointed. Although these numbers are possible, it’s rare that they are obtained so quickly.
Be Successful

There are specific things you should do during your first year in network marketing to increase your chance for success, including:
• Be a Sponge

– You want to absorb every bit of helpful and accurate information that you can during this time. Go to seminars, read books and learn from those with a proven track record for success.
• Financial Planning

– The average person will not see a positive cash flow for at least six months so you will need money to live on until then. Most will say that it’s wise to plan ahead for a year and make sure that you do not overspend during this time. Some companies offer impressive front end commissions which can be helpful as well.
• Go Ahead and Dream

– What are you doing this all for? A new house? A vacation of a lifetime? College tuition for your children? Have a dream and make it a reality!
The first year in network marketing is no walk in the park. Anyone who tells you that it is effortless and that you will get rich overnight is lying to you. Financial freedom is certainly within your reach but you will have to work hard to get there!
